This is a problem with the Ubuntu Image, not with the Virtual Box
package that is being distributed.
I had similar symptoms, so I went to Windows XP and installed the last
version of VirtualBox Free Edition (not Open Source). I tried to boot
the Lucid ISO (and yes the checksum was ok). The initial
Loaded up a Lucid live CD today, I was able to get sustained 1.1 Mb/sec
data transfers. Something I hadn't seen since Jaunty, Hurray!

Apparently the issue has finally been solved for kernel 2.6.32 and in
the latest ath9k drivers from compat-wireless. Truly solved, it's not a

The patch that was incorporated into linux-backports-modules is not a
solution, only a workaround. And it doesn't solve the issues described
as stated by me and many others in the comments.

Box VM, On real hardware (tested it with a Eee PC 701) the system menu
doesn't have any problem.

I solved the problem and tested it on my system. The upgrade to a
development release now works fine.
I use urllib2 to test the repository url insted of using httplib and
ftplib, so the proxy definitions are used. The code is more compact too.
Can someone have a look?

release-upgrade" apparently works and "sudo do-release-upgrade -d"
doesn't.

that it is a finished work (no more editing or fiddling is possible), so

In 8.10 there is still no sound. However after leaving your comment I've
running some experiments, there is no sound output but there aren't any
errors either. I tried running scummvm with debugging messages enabled,
and there's a lot of output but nothing about sound errors.

Reading the known issues in the release notes i found that this
apparently this was already a known problem. Oh well filing a bug won't
hurt.

way for setting those parameters using the sysctl command. And it looks like
the correct/best way of perpetuating the settings is through the
/etc/sysctl.conf file, that loads sysctl values at boot time. See

I had gibbon and installed scummvm from universe and it worked
flawlessly. Now I upgraded to hardy doing a fresh install. When I
installed scummvm I tried several games (including some that worked
before) and the sound didn't work in any of them.
The language used in the Bug description is not very clear, but I think
the person that made the report is complaining about the same thing as I
am.
At work I use Ubuntu, I have to access the Internet behind a corporate
firewall. So I configured the proxy and the username/password for it in
Gnome
