Your assessment seems accurate
There was a problem in writing the ISO to the flash disk. I used GParted and
Gnome Disk utility to correct the problem and wrote the ISO image to disk
again. This time the OS could be set up properly

I have exactly the same problem as eMKi (mkisovec), but with Ubuntu 14.04 and
dual video card system (Intel Hasewell and Nvidia GEForce 840M). I use Nvidia
trive 331 and Bumblebee. Used to work pretty fine.
The problem appeared today, may be due to a recently updated package.

Me too facing this problem, it does not remember screen brightness
setting and Bluetooth setting.
Usually I dim screen brightness to very low and turn off Bluetooth
always. I am using same machine since ubuntu 10.04 and now only in 11.10
this problem appeared.

Ever since I installed 9.04 on my thinkpad from xp, everytime i boot,
the wifi and blue tooth will be switched on. Using Fn+F5, instead of
switching off BT, I switched of wifi numerous times. (when i was
downloading important files...:().
