For me, the workaround that worked was to create an empty
~/.kde/share/config/kdenliverc file, and add just the following two
lines:

The problem is still there. I don't know if it is connected to bug
685119, but it definitely looks like a Unicode issue.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: banshee
When creating smart playlists with "File location" filter and "contains"
option, Banshee has some problems if the term you want to match is in
cyrillics (that is, when folders' names are in cyrillics).
Expected behaviour:

With the updated Python packages from your PPA, Alacarte now starts with
no errors or warning messages of any kind. Same applies to software-
center.
Thanks!

Thanks for the effort, Jonathan! I'll be sure to check it out.
Don't know if it's important, but all the version numbers in the debdiff
are 2.6.2 (Jaunty's version), and the current vesrion in Karmic is
2.6.4.

It appears that this is related to an upstream Python bug
(http://bugs.python.org/issue6895). There is a patch for it. The problem
is that the serbian locale doesn't have encoding information in it's
name (instead of "sr_RS.UTF-8" it's just "sr_RS"), and
_parse_localename() function doesn't accept
I am also using serbian translation (the unknown locale it complains
about is sr_RS). Alacarte works in terminal if the command is preceded
with LANG=en. Don't know if it's relevant, since Alacarte is a Python
program, but I'm using the 64bit Ubuntu variant.

I'm also having this problem in Gutsy, except that the delay is shorter
(1 second). It's one card (GeForce 7600 GS) with TV-out configured as a
second, separate screen. There is no delay on TV, but also no window
decorations (the effects like fade, etc. are working).

It happens for me too, but only with the delete key (not with
backspace), and only if there are other files in the burning list. When
I edit the name of the file when it's the only one on the list, the
delete key erases the whole file, not just a letter in it's name. It's
the same every time, and i
