It seems i meet the same bug. After installing fglrx video device shows two blurred and very distorted "ubuntu" words in upper part of screen. I think it`s a ghost image of mine gdm-login-screen. After showing up this picture nothing wont change by ctrl+alt+f1, but i`m able to reboot with Alt+SysR
