It seems i meet the same bug. After installing fglrx video device shows two blurred and very distorted "ubuntu" words in upper part of screen. I think it`s a ghost image of mine gdm-login-screen.
After showing up this picture nothing wont change by ctrl+alt+f1, but i`m able to reboot with Alt+SysRq+b. So i guess this crash hangs up video device. Being not familiar with xorg i can`t figure out where to take logs (or more exactly - there is 5 logs and i do not know which one is the wanted one). lspci | grep -i vga 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS780M/RS780MN [Radeon HD 3200 Graphics] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650 -- Jaunty, FGLRX Drivers crash.
