I used to have my system (10.10 netbook) installed with / in xfs, and

stepping was working flawlessly in feisty, I tried upgrading to gutsy
just to discover that this was no more the case. Tried your patch on
cpufreq-detect.sh, but to no avail: it still tries to load cpufreq-
speedstep, which fails
Just a quick followup: i have the very same chip (PCI ID 1002:4153) but
here compiz runs quite stable, after disabling the blacklist in the
wrapper script. Took a while to understand why it didn't start: only
error message I got was "unable to activate graphic effects"...

It's strange that edgy version is reported to work fine. I had exactly
the same problem yesterday (backup failed due to a flacky usb
connection), and the only solution was to remove the directory with
faulty backup.

I found that during upgrade process from dapper to edgy my
/etc/usplash.conf was overwritten and got the wrong resolution, ie
1024x768 instead of 1024x600. Modified it with right resolution for my
screen and boot is now speedy as it was before and the splash screen is
displayed right.

1024x768 instead of 1024x600. Modified it with right resolution for my
screen and boot is now speedy as it was before and the splash screen is
displayed right.

Ok, found the cause. I misconfigured lilo.conf and so System.map got
corrupted. Anyway I think assigning a char to a pointer that could be
null is still a bug. (maybe using strchrnul could be the case?) :)

I upgraded to edgy a couple of days ago, and on one of my machines, apt-
get is unable to configure linux-restricted-modules due to a segfault in
executing depmod -a -F "System.map-2.6.17-10-generic" "2.6.17-generic".
Can't say why it's acting like that, anyway I recompiled m
just one "strange" thing more: i tried booting with the external vga
plugged to an external monitor. boot went normally, splash displayed
(badly, but I think it's a monitor issue) on external monitor, lcd
stayed black with blinking cursor. when it reached gdm login, lcd and
external monitor went in
Same here (blinking cursor and extremely slow boot) with Transmeta
Crusoe TM5800 and Ati Radeon Mobility M6. Problem manifested after
upgrading from dapper to edgy, and doesn't seem related to the kernel I
use for boot (I kept old dapper kernels around as a safety net).

After upgrading from dapper to edgy, gnome-netstatus applet started
taking up way too much space in tray bar. Problem seems related to Human
gnome theme, all others I tried functioning as expected. I tried
manually changing canvas sizes of /usr/share/icons/Human/scalable/apps
I second: have the same problem here, but only with human theme.
Switching to another one solves the space on tray issue.

Don't know about base install, but on my system (toshiba sa50) upgrading
from dapper to edgy renders the system not bootable (oops during "init"
phase, no X, no login). Same symptoms reported here. Booting with
acpi=off solves the issue, but being a lap
