I can confirm the bug on a Toshiba Satellite A510. Strange thing is: I'm
experiencing this (screen stays blank on lid close) _and_ still using
"old" i810 driver.

output from lspci:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device (rev 02)

Relevant part of Xorg.0.log:
(II) LoadModule: "i810"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//i810_drv.so
(II) Module i810: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
        compiled for 1.3.0, module version = 1.7.4
        Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 1.2

Relevant part of Xorg.0.log.old (hopefully near or during freeze):
