I have the same problem running gutsy on an MSI PR600 laptop. I ran some scripts/tools to monitor hal (lshal -m), acpi (acpi -Vs) and changes to the contents of '/proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/*'. It appears that the '/proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/*' information fairly regularly gets written incorrectly, such
