Confirming bug. I didn't upgrade, but rather re-installed through the
alternate cd. I have two separate partitions being mounted, one for /
and one for /home directories, so it could be an issue with a config
file from previous versions that Jaunty doesn't like.

I'm having the same exact problem. Has a resolution been found? I've
tried running:
sudo dpkg --configure sun-java6-bin
But it fails with:

As stated, bootup freezes immediately with no progress on the progress
bar. When I change terminals and switch back to the bootup terminal, the
error:
udevd-event[1975]: run_program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit

Thanks William,
Could you hint at where the gconf key is? I've looked all over and can't
find it. What would be a more appropriate value, as I can't recall what
default was called? I had every intention of switching right back when I
looked to see seconds since Jan 1, 1970 :)
