I made the test I mentioned but new kernel failed completely to boot, it
just shown 2 or 3 colour line stripes on top and halted. I've replaced
the computer by another one so I cannot follow this issue any more.

The problem only happens with this version... I'm loading the previous
kernel (2.6.32-38) to have my system fully functional otherwise volume
keys et al wouldn't work and the system keeps running at highest
processor speed even when idle.
