I got the same thing when installing Kubuntu 15.04 daily (as of 2015-02-09).
Had to change the language to English (my native is Brazilian Portuguese) to be
able to install.

Ah, just found that the problem is not really, gtk2-engines-qtcurve, but the
recommended kde-style-qtcurve.
If I install gtk2-engines-qtcurve with --no-install-recommends it works.

of 1280x1024, and the laptop monitor (of 1366x768) is positioned below it.

In Unity, the top panel is the window decoration for maximized windows, and
should look exactly like the window decoration for non-maximized windows.
They have some small differences:

Are you sure you are not running Unity 3d? It's probably the Unity 2d version.
This bug (as stated before) is an upstream bug which broke composition in the
GF 7200/7300/7400 series.
Unless they fix upstream, nothing will help us.
I'm experiencing this bug using Kubuntu 11.04 as well
As a temporary workaround, I've created a script which sleeps a few
seconds before starting skype, and added it as the session start.

Just to make it clear to others: This "fix" is actually a workaround for not
using the global menu in eclipse.
To do that, before running eclipse, run export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0
You could also create a script to launch it:

export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0
_path_to_downloaded_eclipse_/eclipse
Things are working now: when enabling dual head, compositing is disabled
(presumably by the intel driver, not KDE).
Can be marked as resolved by upstream.

A colleague has a netbook with intel video, and he has lucid ubuntu netbook
remix installed.
If he plugs an external monitor with dual head, the effects are automatically
disabled.
This is way more elegant than just crashing :-)
I don't know if it's an ubuntu-specific or compiz feature, but KDE

Actually, following Murphy's law, I found the cause minutes after the last
post...
But, at least I found how to reproduce it :)
I use KDE. If I disable compositing (shift+alt+F12), then the second monitor
works without being mirrored.
With compositing enabled, X crashes, and happens as first repo
New info: it worked with an external monitor with 1280x1024 resolution.
The first monitor i've tried used 1680x1050, and perhaps was pushing the
netbook's onboard video card too far...
As there are some new updates, I'll try again connecting with the 1680x1050
monitor, but I'll only be at that pl

I have a netbook which is reported as H80CH model (using dmesg | grep asus) in
Kubuntu Lucid (beta 1), and for me, the hotkey event is: hotkey HOTK 006a.
The event is catched by /etc/acpi/events/asus-touchpad by the following line:
