Happens for me too.
If I plug the external monitor and set the netbook lcd to mirror the external
monitor, things work ok.
However, if I set it to be on the left side of the external monitor, x crashes.
Using kubuntu lucid with all updates, on a netbook with an intel video (00:02.1
Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03))
After that crash, I'm set to 800x600, and if I try to restore the native
1024x800 resolution, X server crashes again.
I'm attaching the dmesg, lspci, lshw and Xserver.0.log files.

** Attachment added: "Contains outputs for dmesg, lspci, lshw and Xserver.0.log"
