I wish I could say the issue is gone for me too. But I can't. It just doesn't

Whole computer hangs so I cannot get any messages too. Cannot log in over

Maybe I have another bug, but the kernels mentioned in #4 and #5 do not behave
any better.
Whole machine hangs during the first minute after logon to KDE. With those two
kernels it's so hanged I can't switch terminal and so can't see the error
message.

The machine was a standard PC not laptop, and quite generic one.
With Intel desktop motherboard and Logitech UltraX USB keyboard (Estonian
layout).

I do not have convenient access to this machine anymore,
but I remember that it happened to work last time I tried.
That was with lucid (alpha or earlier) and 2.6.33-rc? mainline kernel.
So it is probably fixed and will be working ok in upcoming Ubuntu release.

Managed to get needed dumps. With 2.6.31-3 kernel (with -4 my r8169 NIC
doesn't work for some reason) and KMS disabled.
Some remarks:
It was very jumpy and lagging to use ssh during the freeze. This behaviour

Update. after latest kdebase-runtime (4:4.1.96-0ubuntu2) icons in alt+f2 window
appeared.
And it's now possible to enable desktop effects.
But. with desktop effects enabled, the desktop is just black (background
image missing). Taskbar is still completely missing. Clicking with right
