This may be related to the fact that I was running two different AMD video cards, one with amdgpu and the other with radeon drivers. That is how they were automatically installed. I have since moved one card over to a vfio driver for pci passthrough, so effectively it's not doing much with the ker

I don't quite understand the code-path that leads to vfprintf() being passed a NULL file-handle, but I see that we're calling xmlCleanupParser() in both load_gpx_string_into_list() and load_gpx_file_into_list(), and we should *never* be calling that, because it basically unloads libxml2. cf.:
