This may be related to the fact that I was running two different AMD
video cards, one with amdgpu and the other with radeon drivers. That is
how they were automatically installed.
I have since moved one card over to a vfio driver for pci passthrough,

My guess is that this is the friend-finder crashing because the server
on tangogps.org has ceased operation; it's very easy to accidentally
enable it, so that's probably what happened--you can check
/apps/foxtrot/fftimer_running in gconf-editor to verify, and try

I don't quite understand the code-path that leads to vfprintf() being
passed a NULL file-handle, but I see that we're calling
xmlCleanupParser() in both load_gpx_string_into_list() and
load_gpx_file_into_list(), and we should *never* be calling that,
because it basically unloads libxml2.
