Thanks very much for the workaround.
Tried it, as described, and if its purpose is to disable WiFi, it works
- although my netbook is still in need to be hardwired to the ethernet
to get connected :(

Since 11.04, whenever WiFi is attempted to be used, my netbook freezes where

I can reproduce this with anything that consumes CPU. Audacious doesn't
exhibit the behavior even under full CPU load.
Worst (another bug?) the sound player (most probably the sound
infrastructure) hangs under extreme loads, to the point of having to
kill it.

I'm no longer getting the error at startup with Empathy 2.28.1-1ubuntu1,
telepathy-buterfly 0.5.2-0ubuntu1 on this laptop. I'll leave it on to see if

To add information to the bug, one of the devices that doesn't get
recognized on boot (inifinite console messages) is a Maxtor USB2 DVD 16X R/W
unit. The device does get recognized and is usable from gnomebake,
