Same problem, when updating, from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS. Desktop Environment: GNOME-Flashback: Unity (gnome-flashback-metacity) The strange thing is that in 14.04, this did not happen to me. I'm thinking of going back to Trusty. The momentary solution with the script, does not provide solution for the icons on the desktop, these, change their position and overlap, and not put back in their original position. Needs fix
