Thank you Bryce for keeping this bug posted: I no longer have this

beneficial to Ubuntu's next LTS version and updates for Karmic. Again,

To summarize this bug up, I think there is a problem in the coding that
allows these intel graphics controllers to read the EDID information
from the monitors...I do not know if code needs to be written for each
EDID, or how the EDID is designed, but the conflict and solution would
seem to lie with

Yep...I broke it! After hours of trying to get stuff working right, I
just made things worse (buttons don't work again on YouTube)...is Adobe
the only player that can handle YouTube and Speedtest files in the
browsers? And how do I uninstall Flashplayer?...marking the installer

Well, I guess I'm talking to myself, but the problem is between the EDID
of the monitor and the Ubuntu drivers for the i865 graphics controller:
when I leave the monitor off during boot and grub loading, turn it on
afterwards, then the monitor is recognised and fully functional. XP

Is no one working on this bug? I can print fine sometimes (like with
OpenOffice), but get hung-up on print jobs from the web and
such...again, there seems to be a software conflict with HPLIP and the
Ubuntu default printing scheduler.

Okay...I found a solution, but not a fix: if I leave the monitor off
during boot and turn it on later, then I get the correct monitor
information and can use the higher resolutions. Somewhere there is a
conflict with the graphics controller and the EDID of the
monitor...whether it's a software or
These are procedural notes I was making to myself on this recent (of
many) new installations of Ubuntu:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, Nvidia GeForce 4, 1.5 GB DDR RAM...nothing to brag about,
that's for sure, but it was free through some volunteer work :-)

Apologies...when I refer to "system-config-printer," I really mean
"system-config-printer-common," as the latter has replaced the prior in
karmic...and I uninstalled openprinting without a big crash as I thought
might happen messin' with that ther' ubuntu-desktop removal.

I am having the same problem, and I think there is a conflict between
system-config-printer and hplip...when my print jobs run through hplip,
it's all good; but when the Ubuntu 9.10 default printer interface tries
to print (like when I try to print from a web link), it hangs up and

I think I'm having the same problem: I thought it was my monitor, but
now I think I'm discovering it's not having the proper drivers for the
Intel 82865G graphics controller. I'm a n00b, so I don't understand
where exactly to throw the "nomodeset" line, if that is the solution.
Please help!!!
