I just downgraded to compiz 0.8.6 and it solved all my current problems.
Lovely 'update,' removing major functionality!
FWIW, this even solved my issues with losing focus when alt-tabbing (I
use hover focus).

Ah right, I can use Xinerama also and have the four monitors on one X
screen, but something won't work with OpenGL there, and no compiz at
all. I'll take half-and-half over none for now ;)

I'd love to not have multiscreen, it's a pain to not be able to drag
windows between X displays. I don't think the nVidia driver supports all
four monitors across two video cards in a single X screen though.

Ah, I understand. Personally I don't mind not being able to have a
'standard' gnome session, but I could see where others would. Is there
aims at making the UNE experience work inside a standard gnome session
eventually? Maybe that would fix it?
Thanks a lot!

Thanks, Didier!
Is there a related bug in the gnome project or somewhere to get the
technical issues fixed? I really like the UNE interface, but it would be
nice to continue customizing my panel.

Please fix this potentially simple dependency issue, I rely on rmagick
for services. I can also go through the fix as provided by anitpode,
however the reason I use ubuntu is so that I won't have to install
packages by hand.

FWIW, I have an Epson Stylus C88 and printing is also very slow. It's
connected via lpr. Printing from my Mac or Windows machines is very
quick. Interestingly, the Mac is using Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2, which
seems to be the same driver as I'm using here in Linux. I've attached my
