FWIW, I have an Epson Stylus C88 and printing is also very slow. It's connected via lpr. Printing from my Mac or Windows machines is very quick. Interestingly, the Mac is using Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2, which seems to be the same driver as I'm using here in Linux. I've attached my printbuginfo.txt as well.
