For ages, on seeing this symbol, I assumed it meant "able to receive an
audio call." I fail to see any situation in which a person could use an
IM client from a phone like the one depicted in the icon, bar a
jailbroken Amstrad e-m@ailer.

Just to clarify, this also appears to be occurring with tooltips in
Firefox, although with these only the latest one continues to cast its
ghosted shadow.
The shadows appear above all other windows on all desktops.

When a menu is closed, its shadow remains on the screen. It appears on
all workspaces and can't be got rid of. This leads to ugly "ghosting" of
menus.
This occurs on both indicator menus (including the global menu) and
other menus (e.g. context menus in Firefox.)

Indeed, at present the best submission we've had from the forum thread
is Mr_Bumpy's one. (Personally, I'm particularly fond of startup sound

Also getting this bug with the NVIDIA 96 driver, any GRUB configuration
and Lucid with all updates applied.
Everything works fine with Nouveau, so this appears to be specific to
the NVIDIA driver.
