I had this happen to me as well as the original poster. I also disabled
socket authentication using the steps from the thread attached by the
original poster to get access to the server again via SSH. Here is the

The problem seems to be installing likewise changes /etc/nsswitch.conf
and pam, but doesn't revert them if you uninstall, leaving the system in
a state where you can't log in.
I'd say this is a pretty big problem

According to bug #132399 fancyheadings.sty is no longer a part of the
tex distributed with Ubuntu, however tex generated with kdissert is
dependent on this file. It should probably be adjusted so that tex
exported is able to compile using Ubuntu
My samba version is 3.0.24-2ubuntu1. I tried cifs, and that results in
the same behavior.

I was having the ndiswrapper instead of wext problem as well, with a
rt2500 device using ndiswrapper ( The native driver wouldn't associate
as well, but that's another issue). I was manually using wpa_supplicant
to get around it.
jpierre's packages solved the problem.

When using the 2.6.17-5-k7 kernel on my Averatec 3100 laptop after grub
the screen goes completely white.
This happens when I use the VIA or VESA drivers in X.org as well. I've
never had any problem when using the VESA driver before.
The video is fine on the 2.6.15 kernel so
I have had this problem since upgrading to Dapper. It did not occur in
builds from around March. I was not updating Kubuntu from the period
from there to release.
It only occured in my main account on the machine, so I'm assuming it
may have something to do with the profile and upgrade path.
