+ replaced lightdm as display-manager)

chose sddm (just to see how it looked) on reboot sddm failed to load (black

switched to tty reconfigured to return to lightdm, purged sddm -> reboot

On further investigation. Looks similar to Bug #1026331 (duplicate of
#878986). Which, according to the comments on the latter is a Pulseaudio
issue.
Fixed (or rather triaged) by using
amixer -D pulse set Master toggle
(which worked for me)
or using
pactl set-sink-mute 0
(which wouldn't recogn
Also affects Ubuntu 14.04 Vanilla (running standalone Xmonad Window
Manager, not Unity Desktop on Acer Aspire One D260).
amixer -q sset Master toggle (or Master,0) also mutes Headphone and
Speaker but does not unmute Headphone and Speaker when run again to
unmute.

This is still an issue in 13.04.
Installed mbola along wiith gespeaker, then en1, us1, us2.
Path to mbrola voices not correctly set in gespeaker, corrected to
/usr/share/mbrola, path does not show in box and even after clicking
refresh, gespeaker fails to pick up the voices.

broadcasting on Channel 12) I can not change this as it's a shared house

I got this error after running an update on 11.10-->Update
Manager-->Chose Restart From 'Power' Menu due to message 'This system
needs a restart to apply updates' (Unity). After Reboot I logged into
Gnome3 and this error popped up almost immediately.

Occurred when I attempted to run vlc - which hasn't worked since I
upgraded to 11.10. I try it every time I update, on gnome-shell it just
comes up weird and unusable, when I run it in unity I get this error
instead.

No Screensaver set, Screen seems to blank anyway after about ten
minutes, no way to switch it off in Settings. When playing a video, even
when the player is set to inhibit screensaver during playback it blanks
anyway. Don't know if this is related to this crash which occured after
swiping the mouse
