Public bug reported:
When trying to compile freetz-trunk (www.freetz.org) on i386 karmic
koala (alpha4), I encounter the error shown below. The Version of
zlibg1-dev is 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-13ubuntu2.
make -j2 CXX="g++" LZMA_DIR="../../lzma443" \
-C
/home/janosch/src/freetz-trunk/sourc
I had the same issue. The new driver did the trick. I didn't had to
change the Makefile like "concertedrxn". It just worked out of the box.
I suggest to include the new driver into the kernel.

Ok I fixed this for me following a hint from the last post on
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=637721. According to the guy in
the forum the SATA Contollers are double booked (whatever that means)
which apparently confuses ubuntu. The solution for me was to plug my
harddisk in a high number
I have the "failed to set xfermode" issue, too. My workaround is to
disable the controller in the BIOS. This is a realy bad workaround,
because I cannot access my DVD-Drive. Vista has no problems with it so I
think we can rule out hardware failours. It's very sad that this bug
hasn't been fixed for
I get the same error if my SATA-Controller(JMicron) is enabled. Ubuntu
drops into a BusyBox shell, cause its the only harddisk I have in my pc.
If I disable the SATA controller, ubuntu boots up, but my DVD-Drive
isn't recognized. I added the "irqpoll" option to grub as suggested in
many places, but
@Leterp:
To apply the ethtool settings permanently:
Create a file /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/any_name_you_like
with following content:
#!/bin/sh
ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off speed 10 duplex half
The script is called every time before the network device is activated.

I found sth that works for me. I set my realtek 8168b to half-duplex and
10Mbit/s and now I get a DHCP offer. I used ethtool to do that:
ethtool -s eth0 duplex half speed 10 autoneg off. I hope this is useful
for somone else. Even if this is a workaround I would love to get at
least 100MBit/s work
I got the same issue. My onboard RTL8168B is recognized but doesen't get
an IP assigned. All other devices within my network are getting an IP
assigned. Ethtool tells me that link is up. I have the same issue in
Vista Business 32bit, so it might be a BIOS or hardware issue.
