I can also confirm this bug. Dell Latitude E6520. Ubuntu 12.10.
Same symptoms with 3.5.0-27 kernel packages. Booted to 3.5.0-26
succeeds.

Also running intrepid and getting the memory leak problem. If I set the sound
device to ALSA in pidgin (tools->preferences->sounds->method=alsa), it seems to
slow down the issue. Found that hint in pidgin's bug #7519.

Having same problem. Mplayer and Totem both showing same weird colors.
Changing to X11 fixes, and specifying Xv gives same as autodetect.
