Also running intrepid and getting the memory leak problem. If I set the sound device to ALSA in pidgin (tools->preferences->sounds->method=alsa), it seems to slow down the issue. Found that hint in pidgin's bug #7519. http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/7519
