I can confirm the same problem as described by Simon Wedge in post #7.
Using 10.04 Netbook Remix on a Samsung NC10. After updating yesterday,
I was presented on reboot with a plain desktop background and no netbook

Fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 beta 1 i386 on compaq CQ60. Touch pad
worked fine until I ran update manager and downloaded and installed the
available updates. Now, any use whatsoever of the touch pad sends me to
the login screen. USB mouse works fine.

If this problem is still under consideration, here is what I just did to
solve it (I've already posted this to a thread about adding a keyboard
layout switcher):
For those who want to add applets to the panel (such as the keyboard
layout switcher) of a standard UNR 9.10 Gnome desktop, first right-
difference between what works and what
doesn't is in whether or not any editing is done on the component
documents of the master document from within the master document. As
such, perhaps the problem is one with OO rather than U1 (?).

After a reinstall of Jaunty, the rhythmbox (0.12.0) cover art plugin
doesn't find any cover art. It joust shows the loading animation. It
worked fine before the reinstall.
