I have the same issue. Stuck at "Removing conflicting operating system
files..."
My setup is:
NTFS - Recovery
NTFS - Diagnostics
Ext4 - /home (not to be formatted)
Extended Partition
Ext4 - / (to be formatted)
Swap (to be formatted)

I can confirm both behaviours. Furthermore, I had to create the database
and tables manually.
The nagios-mysql installation takes care for apache very well but
neglects mysql completely.

Just yesterday I tried to install nagios-mysql. The installation failed, and
some files were missing. A manual fix required to find out what is required.
Reading the nagios manuals I found out that nagios requires gcc to be installed

2. Select any menu item from "System->Administration" which requires password
