Issue confirmed for Yakkety Yak beta. The debian changelog lists the bug
as fixed for 1.8.2-nmu1, which is weird since this is the same version

Installed mesa git from 2016-04-14, regression is still present, so
patching won't fix this particular issue, at least for now. Hardware is
Intel Ivy Bridge btw.

I run that kernel module (20110915) fine on ubuntu 12.04. What I could
use is a confirmation (!).
Check the vhba version to see if it is not an old one:
dpkg -l vhba-dkms
Then post the new crash message here. If it doesn't read "vhba_ctl_read"
it's not the same bug.
