The following has worked for me:
1. install 2.6.30rc6 kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30-rc6/ in jaunty
2. reboot, gnome starts up
3. insert ZTE MF636 USB modem

Just noticed that severity of the bug is set to major in gnome bugzilla
although the priority is set to normal. The bug is open since 2003 so I
believe people watching this bug in launchpad should also add comments
to gnome bugzilla as it's where the bug has a chance to be fixed.

IMO this is a fairly important bug as download of video files to desktop
is a very common desktop user operation. If a user is using the computer
while it's downloading a video it will make the whole desktop experience
suffer and user won't understand why.

I was debugging a user issue and now the user installed hardy on the machine

Right, I guess it should be in util-linux package. I see that other ppc
distro's (just checked rhel4) have a newer version of fdisk so mac-fdisk is not
the only fdisk available for ppc arch.
So I would like to see, if possible, util-linux use a newer version of fdisk on
ppc machine, which probab

Had the same problem, could not save documents as DocBook because java
is required. Trying to set sun java6 in Options did not work. Deleting
$HOME/.openoffice.org2/user/config/javasettings_Linux_x86.xml did the
trick, working fine now.

AnAlach, how did you install version 0.17? Did you use

but dmesg gives me:

I had this same issue so I removed the older libdbus-1-2 (0.60-6) package and
vmware worked without the hack.
Why the upgrade to edgy did not remove the older dbus? The only package that
depended on it was nautilus-burn3 which was out-of-date anyway.
