Ubuntu Mate 17.10.
Running mypaint (1.2.0) gets you greeted with the "About Mypaint"
window. When you click "Close", it comes back in, over and over. There's
no way to avoid it or circumvent it to access the program (that I know
of at least), so it renders the program unusabl
I get the same exact timeout error; mako with 15.04 (r1).
Is there a way we can hack it to work in the meantime?

instruct gmpc to configure the mpd to use authentication, gmpc doesn't
display anything in the tag browsers (genre/artist). Just empty lists.

you set mpd to work with a password from gmpc, the tag browsing
(artist/genre browser) functionality stops working (empty lists). If you
set the server to work without authentication, the tag browser lists
