Nothing harmful happened, this does not seem a very serious bug to me.
Apparently, the selection popup is just not completetly foolproof.

maybe a bit off-topic, but i am thinking about buying an amilo xi 1554,

I have a similar problem with usb 2.0 devices,
apparently the system does not find the ehci hardware in my box.
