Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 on a P4 laptop from summer 2004.
USB 2.0 devices as DVB-T and -S boxes and a 500GB harddisk did work
at high speed (up to > 20 MByte/sec) until last autumn, using openSUSE.

By now, all these devices do not work any more (or rather,
the hard disk runs only at "full speed", which is too slow for video).
One might suspect a hardware failure.

But I have two identical machines with very much the same problem,
and they both report about the same diagnostic output, see below
(apparently, only UHCIs are found. /dev/sdb1 is the external harddisk).

The machine is a Gericom Hummer Force 3080U, purchased in 2004.
I know they don't have a good reputation, but in terms of performance
and display resolution (1600x1200) i have been very satisfied...

Thanks for looking into this.
So... Here comes the info:
