I have managed to find an odd workaround for this that I have confirmed
multiple times to work - so far it has worked more than 20 times without
fail:
After poweron+login, I do a manual
sudo systemctl suspend
and only then can I let the lid handle the suspend via this in
/etc/systemd/logind.conf

On my Dell XPS15, the frequency of the freezes depends on what I am
running. While browsing, doing e-mail, terminal work and the like, it
freezes maybe once every 10 minutes. But while playing Wesnoth, it
freezes at least once per minute(!). It doesn't matter if I run on the
i915 or the Nvidia gpu.
Rather than adding a report as the dozen+1, I will just chime in the I
have the same on my Dell XPS15 after upgrading three days ago.

So far, my conclusion is that something in xserver-xorg-input-evdev (?)
was changed from 11.10 to 12.04 that causes this sporadic behavior.
Now, if anyone could supply a temporary workaround for this bug, it
would be highly appreciated - like reloading a module or some such.
