I am running the latest Gutsy 386 kernel (Linux 2.6.22-14-386 #1 Tue Dec 18
07:34:24 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux) but the noise is still present. (I was
previously using the 386 kernel)
I have also fixed "sudo hdparm -B254 /dev/sda".

I have a upgraded my Kubuntu Feisty into Gutsy.
My laptop is a Dell latitude D610 with Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 2.00GHz
and with ATA FUJITSU MHV2080A as hard drive
I used to have a noisy hard disk on Feisty and so I put:

Made a "strace gaim".
I have seen that gaim was crashing just after opening the file .gaim/pref.xml
So I removed that file and it solved the problem.
I have attached the buggy pref.xml

Choosing the gs-gpl alternative solves the problem., but it is not the
default gs in Kubuntu.
