So Ubuntu uses loginD which means xfpm will do an auth check with LoginD
if it detects it is running, otherwise it will fall back to upower if
0.9.23 is installed. It will only use the internal pkexec method if the
new Xubuntu image uses upower 0.99.

The issue was launching xfdesktop-settings changed the
wallpaper background color, either to black or #7f000 or
some other
Xfdesktop's .desktop file is used in the xfce4-settings-manager which is why
it's rather vague. Changing it would have to look consistent with the other
applications embedded there.
One fix action would be if the software center supported appdata (or appsteam?)
which xfdesktop could ship.

Don't reload file info until changes are done
Can you try this patch out and see if it fixes the issue? Thunar
should wait for a set of changes to complete before refreshing the
file/thumbnail. If it doesn't, we can also try rate-limiting the changed
signals instead.
