In maverick, I disabled caps lock by having the line 'clear Lock' in ~/.Xmodmap
Upon upgrade to natty, .Xmodmap is still being read, and the output of xmodmap
reflects it:
$ xmodmap
shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)

Reproduction on nvidia Quadro NVS on Latitude D820 running gutsy

I had the same proplem as the OP, with an AMD Sempron and Toshiba 60GB
ATA drive. After creating the partition with gparted on ubuntu feisty
live cd, I reinstalled windows on one of the partitions, but now gparted
sees the entire drive as unallocated space. fdisk -l gives the following
