The upgrade to 12.04 didn't solve the problem for me (at least for kubuntu). The kde apps still don't ask for authentication (e.g., okular); gnome apps (e.g., evince) do ask for authentication, but it doesn't print and the print monitor shows the job as "Held". This is with 1.5.2-9ubuntu1. -- You

I seem to have the same problem: I'm trying to print from an ubuntu machine (11.10) to a windows IPP server with authentication (IPP over http, without encryption). The client never asks for authentication details and printing fails. Running wireshark shows the print server returns an "HTTP 401
