Regrettably, bug has returned!
Now stuck (even after re-trying yesterdays fix) with Panel notification
showing Ethernet connection (instead of wireless signal strength), and
Desktop notification showing Disconnected, even though connection is
active. :(

Found the issue is still present after clean 16.04 LTS installation if
option to install updates during installation is used.
After changing network driver to 'Do not use the device', then back
again, wireless signal strength and Connected desktop notification work
as expected.

This is also happening to me, but in a slightly different manner. Again
on a clean install of 10.10.
If I am logged in to the console X session the USB disks will mount.
However, I get errors in other VNC sessions (e.g., extra X sessions)
that I don't have permission to mount the disk. Indeed, if
I'm seeing a similar problem with a Nikon Coolpix S210 camera.
The cause is the camera formats and in my case *will only read* a card that is
unpartitioned.
The FAT filesystem is created on the raw device. If I partition the card in
Linux and create a FAT filesystem on the partition, the camera
