I no longer have either the affected computer or Ubuntu so I can't
comment on the status of this bug. I will comment that this version of
Ubuntu led me to use Win 7 exclusively for almost a year!

I "activated" the nVidia proprietary video driver (NVIDIA Linux x86
Kernel Module 96.43.13) and choose "normal" desktop effects.
Under that set-up Frozen Bubble works just fine.

On program start the display tears into narrow (~5 pixel?) strips that
divide every inch (~100 pixel?) or so. Some flash - some are static.
The system is locked - [ctrl]c or [ctrl][alt]Fx or [ctrl][alt][del]
cause no response - power button
I couldn't handle this problem anymore so - I removed all hidden
directories (except browser, mail, and genealogy) and files then made
yet ANOTHER fresh install of 9.10 (Kosmic Kludge). The issue no longer
exists.

@Reini68: Uninstall the libsane package in Synaptic, then download the
Jaunty .deb file from here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/libsane
and install it. You will have to install xsane again, as it is removed
when you uninstall libsane in Synaptic.

It would appear that the reassignment of this bug to nVidia would be
wrong.
I just removed the proprietary nVidia driver and rebooted. As far as I
can see exactly the same problem continues to occur. The same procedure
for recovery works except that upon choosing normal desktop effects
there is
27;t bother.
2 - If a fix was released how would I have got it before I filed the bug
report? How would I get it now?

During the resume I got an on screen message about /home sda(6) being

Yes it was. Any other drives shown would also have been mounted.
However the issue is NOT confined to USB drives. Anything above the
divider seems to be fair game although I have not yet seen Trash grab

I had not replied because there was an issue with logging in at that time.

This has nothing to do with hibernation! That's a whole 'nuther issue.
Suspend retains enough processor awareness to refresh memory and respond
to interrupts while hibernation dumps everything to disk and shuts down.
