Sadly, I can no longer test this issue as VPN no longer works for me.
Previously however I was connecting to a VPN using the ubuntu network icon.
Empathy connections would continue when the VPN was connected, but on
disconnecting the connection would appear to stay up (i.e. the client would

For me this happened soon after getting the desktop but before the
wireless connection came up. I had performed no other actions.
