Actually, my previous comment about the "asouund.conf" misspelling
seemed to be it. I fixed the spelling and rebooted, and now I have
sound.
So this bug is actually relating to whatever would have changed the
spelling of /etc/asound.conf.

Interesting - I also just noticed that for some reason, my
/etc/asound.conf file was named "/etc/asouund.conf". I don't remember
ever editing this file, so I think it must be an instal/config script
that misnamed it.

This is with kernel 2.6.20-15-generic, by the way.
I will also point out that I either get that "audiotestsrc" error in a
pop up, or I get no error at all but no sound at all. Other bug reports
have indicated some sound (but quiet), or an X on the volume gadget in

Edgy, but now I get a strange error when I try to play a sound. This is

I'm getting python crashes now too (also on latest Edgy). Never had
python coredumps before.
This is in some proprietary software we're developing, so I don't think
I can give you any details. Plus, the libraries and python executable
are all stripped, so there's not much useful there.
