This is with kernel 2.6.20-15-generic, by the way. I will also point out that I either get that "audiotestsrc" error in a pop up, or I get no error at all but no sound at all. Other bug reports have indicated some sound (but quiet), or an X on the volume gadget in the panel. My volume gadget looks like it works (it slides), and the "Open Volume Control" menu opens a volume control panel which also looks like it works (sliders work as they should), but there is no sound at all, even with everything cranked to max.
