I get a similar error when I try to use KDENlive.
If I run the program from a command line as sudo then I can connect to
the camera. When I do this, however, the capture crashes after it is
initialized and starts. This also happens with my webcam, though, and

I wish that I could help...but unfortunately I just wound up reformatting
and then reinstalling 9.04 without issue. The upgrade failed as per the
report but there is no other info that I can provide since I wiped the
machine and reinstalled over a week ago.
