from the machine before automatically rebooting before I could even

Yes. I uni stalled KDE, ran the update which failed to complete, rendering
my system unbootable.
Luckily, my data was still on the drives, I was able to copy it off before
installing Fedora on that machine.
I am in the process of migrating everything ubuntu over to Debian or Fedora
now.

I explained why libc6-dev is necessary for my particular build. The
reason it's mentioned here is because, according to the logs, that's
what killed the upgrade - a candidate to replace it was not
