@Julian: I explained why libc6-dev is necessary for my particular build. The reason it's mentioned here is because, according to the logs, that's what killed the upgrade - a candidate to replace it was not available, and other packages rely on it. Thanks for the admonishment. I'll stop reporting bugs to Ubuntu. Your (perceived) bad attitude has helped me decide to migrate to pure Debian and/or Fedora.
