I thought I would say that I too am having the same problem, although am
not using SSD. I am using a HDD drive. I am getting the problem on my

After a bit more digging I discovered something interesting. When
idling, the CPU has the full range of frequencies available to it, from
min to max. But, when the load ramps up, the BIOS appears to step in
and limit the frequency, then ACPI throttling steps in.

I am getting the same behavior after upgrading to maverick with my Core
2 Duo T7200. Stuck at 1.00 GHz (minimum frequency) no mater what the
stress level. Should be at 2.00 GHz.

This happens on stock Karmic Beta as well. Any USB drive plugged in
after booting will not automount. Mounting manually works as usual.

due to an I/O error.

For me, this crash was immediately followed by the crash reported in bug
#419662.
At the time of the crash I wasn't doing anything that had anything at
all to do with disk io, just perusing some code. Suddenly my external
hard drive started spinning up and I got a crash notification.

I see that his bug was originally posted in 2004. I has been almost 4
years and yet there is still not appropriate fix for this problem.
It all boils down to this: the Ubuntu/Linux developers need to recognize
that file permissions on udf discs are not worth protecting. A disc
that is unreadable
I have not had a lockup for some time now. I do occasionally still get
the system beep.

Using Hardy, and all of the updates from proposed, I continue to get
similar odd behavior. I can't add events to google calendar. Some back
events, a very small fraction, are displayed, though (from a month or
