I see the same problem, also for http.
I am using Kubuntu 10.10.
Firefox is also set as the default browser in System Settings.

FWIW, I only see this with LaCie external drives, over USB. From tragic
experience, I know the USB connections on those drives to be prone to
failure, often leaving only the FireWire ports functional. For some
reason, the same drives still work on Macs.

Here is the requested log file. Since I originally reported that this
bug was affecting me, routine Lucid Beta updates have partially resolved
the problem for me -- i.e., on some reboots cups starts up fine; on
others I have to start it manually.

I confirm the same behaviour ever since installing Lucid 10.04 beta 1 on
a Lenovo ThinkPad T400. CUPS does not start up on booting; requiring a
manual start with "sudo service cups start".

Yes, I did read that. I have since fixed my code and continued
development. I have noticed that the gcc-objc compiler often crashes
when it tries to compile code that is syntactically incorrect. These
errors are usually obvious and easy to fix, however, it seems like the
