The "# blacklist usbmouse" solution I mentioned in #94 does not work every time. I therefore blacklisted usbmouse again.
The following combination of workarounds seems to work reliably (at least for the past 3-4 days): http://askubuntu.com/questions/128345/logitech-m515-does-not-work-after- upgrade-to-12-04/202627#202627 i.e. I installed the logitech-unifying.sh script advertised there in /etc/init.d/.
