the double " \", but it's most certainly not your fault. Just checked,
and it's definitely a bug introduced by a Network Manager "update" and

For now the only solid fix for the bug is this:
1) Install PCManFM via Ubuntu Software Center
2) ++T or a terminal
3) Do this: (works on both Gnome Shell and Unity)

Edit: It's definitely GDM-related.
I fixed it by installing a KDE desktop, logging into that once, logging into
Gnome again, and rebooting.
Confirmed by rebooting 10 times, and extensions are now persistent.
Somebody with inside knowledge about GDM file permissions should

to 3.10.
My other identical machine running a clean install of Ubuntu 13.10,
added Gnome Shell 3.8 and then upgraded to Shell 3.10 is not affected by

"MODULES=most" to "MODULES=dep" - Then reinstall initramfs using synaptic.

Same here. Seems kind of related to the yet unaddressed failure to
resume from suspend. I'm pretty sure all this misery is caused by xorg
now. Current status of 10.10 and 10.04 in my book: Doesn't support 30-40
percent of all laptops. I'm not in a position to help out here, but I

I have this exact same problem -- the volume bars move erratically when
I try to move any of them up or down. I've actually had this problem for
over a year.
1) Double click the volume icon in the top panel.
2) Try to move any of the vertical sliders.
3) Watch the sliders bounce from absolute-max
I am running Hardy Heron and have a CMEDIA ASUS onboard sound...
