Rather the problem that I found is that disabling the monitor energy
saving function also disables the screensaver function.

After upgrading to Kubuntu 7.10 from Kubuntu Feisty my machine got as slow as
molasses, leaving only 3 Gb from 18. I had to re-install which I did from CD,
which left 14 Gb free. (I saved and returned everything I had under home)
Secondly each time I install an update I get
